My New York Mets Hat

As a diehard New York Mets fan, I’d first like to say this . . .

Also: I sometimes wear baseball caps. Not always, but it happens.

I might throw it on because I haven’t washed my hair in a few days. Okay, in six days. Or because I’m a Mets fan, expressing my allegiance to the team.

But this week, I’m wearing my cap as a signal. I am saying to the world: “Be gentle with me. I’m fragile right now.”

My author photo for the book SIX INNINGS. I still own the same cap. Admittedly, both the cap and my face have experienced a little wear and tear over the years.

  1. You may be surprised to learn that this Yankee fan finds herself oddly protective of her (sad, sad) Met fan friends right now. I usually like to step on their necks when they’re down, but right now am honoring the need for time and space and no neck-stepping.

Are jokes trying to blurt out as I write this? Yes. Are the names Murphy and Cespedes forcing their way to my typing fingers? Sure.

But for now, I will try to nod sympathetically and say nothing.

    152 days until opening day.

Well said. Not only the end of the Mets season, but no more baseball at all! I’m not used to those two things happening at the same time (but I’m betting it happens next year too!).

As far as my feelings on losing, I was bummed yesterday, I’m a little better today. I expect I’ll be saying that same sentence everyday for the next month or two. 🙂 Or until Sandy makes some kind of splash.

This is going to be one very interesting offseason.
